Waldport Buys Old Gymnasium

The City of Waldport recently purchased the old gym building in downtown Waldport located next to Southworth Park from the Lincoln County School District. Long term plans include rehabilitating the building into a community recreation & activity center, along with a site for a potential new city library adjacent to both the garden and recreation center.

Before plans for building the library can be official, the city needs to have their goals session meeting in February of 2024 to approve adding it to their priority list. When the city approves building the new library the next step will be hiring an architect. The final building costs for the library could be anywhere between four and nine million depending on the timeline and construction costs. In the meantime the city is asking for people to get involved in getting the park and community center finished. The Waldport Library Foundation will continue fundraising efforts to help move the process along as each step in the library becomes a reality.
